New to Kickboxing? What To Expect From Your First Class
Hey, foxy ladies! If you’re thinking about signing up for a kickboxing class in Markham or Richmond Hill, you probably have few questions. Don’t worry, we’ve have the answers. Here’s Kickboxing 101 for beginners!
What is kickboxing?
Kickboxing is a form of martial arts that combines boxing fundamentals with elements of Karate. It’s a full body, cardio workout that builds strength and toughness. And, thanks to the use of BOBs (Body Opponent Bags), you get some added resistance when punching or kicking.
While many people are initially attracted to kickboxing due to its weight loss or overall health benefits, they often discover that the classes are a total blast and a great way to connect with like-minded women. Plus, you can jab, hook and kick away your daily stresses to some awesome tunes.
Why is it great exercise?
Since kickboxing works out all parts of the body (upper, lower and core), it’s the perfect exercise regimen for fat burning and toning! At our studio, we have a variety of classes to help you reach your fitness goals. You can sculpt abs, build muscle and work that booty.
Ladies Only
Sorry gents, Hers Kickboxing is a female-only studio – our instructors are female, too! At our studio, workouts have been tailored to meet the specific fitness needs of women. Plus, there’s something to be said about a bunch of powerful women getting together to kick some butt and reach their goals. We strongly believe is fostering a community of women who support and encourage one another.
Hello, my name is BOB
At Hers Kickboxing, we practice on BOBs instead of bags. Why? Because BOB is the real deal! Not only is he heavy to create resistance, but since his design imitates the human body, you can perfect your fighting moves.
No special skills required
That’s right! Anyone can join one of our multi-level fitness classes, regardless of experience or skill. Our members range in age from 12 to 75! Currently, we offer 11 types of classes – everything from aerobic workouts to weight training and self-defence. You get your own BOB during class, so there’s no sparring with other members and you only need to keep up with yourself.
For newbies, we offer a Beginner Orientation class (insert hyperlink). Learn basic moves, check out our Heart Rate Monitor and our InBody Scale.
What’s the class structure like?
Class are short and sweet! They’re only 45 minutes. Depending on the class you join, workouts will vary based on target areas and the instructor’s own teaching style.
Time to strut. What do I wear to a kickboxing class?
There’s no catwalk here. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing. You decide if that means shorts, tights, tees or tank tops. Gloves and wraps are a must! You can either rent your gloves at an economical fee of $2 per session, or purchase your own at the studio! Our gloves are available in black, red, and pink. Indoor running shoes are required for all classes. Water bottles are a good idea, and we have a refilling station in the studio if you need more H20. Towels are also welcome, but we do provide cold towels at the end of each class.
Words of wisdom
Take your time when getting started. Again, the only person you need to challenge at the studio is yourself. Pay attention to your form to ensure that you get the most out of your workout and don’t injure yourself. If you have any other questions when starting out, be sure to give us a call!
